Tungsten carbide products are manufactured through a strict powder metallurgy process. The whole procedure includes raw material preparation, powder mixing, granulation, pressing, sintering, post-processing and inspection.
First, high-purity tungsten carbide powder and cobalt powder are weighed according to the designed grade formula. The powders are wet-milled together in a ball mill for uniform mixing and particle size control. After milling, the slurry is dried and granulated to obtain free-flowing carbide granule, which is convenient for compaction.
Next, the mixed powder is filled into precision molds and pressed into green blanks by hydraulic or automatic pressing machines. The green compacts have the required shape but low strength. Then the blanks go through high-temperature sintering in a vacuum sintering furnace. At a temperature above 1400℃, the cobalt melts and bonds tungsten carbide grains together. After sintering, the workpiece shrinks to reach the final dense carbide blank with high hardness and strength.
Sintered blanks can be further processed by CNC grinding, EDM, polishing, coating and other machining operations to achieve precise dimensions, sharp cutting edges and smooth surface as customer requirements.
The final step is strict quality inspection. We check dimension, weight, density, hardness, metallographic structure and appearance. Only qualified products will be packed and delivered.
